If the fire element in our body is out of balance we can get problems with our digestion, skin and hair related issues, eye related symptoms and low immune power and blood pressure variation. Mentally we get uncontrolled stress, easily irritated and short tempered. By taking some extra care in our food and lifestyle we can avoid excess fire in our body-mind systems, which is very important in the summer season, especially for the pitha dominant body types, who has much chance to get out of balance during this period.
Please see my Ayurveda food and lifestyle advice to balance your fire element during this summer:
Make a few small changes in your diet and add the food that has cooling properties. The daily use of the following vegetables can help to balance the fire element in your body:
- Alfalfa and Sunflower sprouts
Most of these vegetables and herbs can be cultivated in Sweden during the summer season. Dill and parsley can be grown in pots on your veranda or balcony. Alfalfa and sunflower can be sprouted in your kitchen.
Fruits that can help to balance the fire element in your body:
You find more extensive lists of pitha balancing food in the book Food from my village (Maten från min by).
(If your kapha is out of balance avoid cucumber, prunes, melon, cherries, and dates. People with vata domination or vata imbalance should avoid melon and pear and only eat raisins and sprouts in small amounts.)
2.Drink enough water
Drink enough water during the day. But remember to avoid drinking with your meals.
3.Avoid direct sunlight
Stay in the shade during the warmest hours of the day.
Spend time in or on the water. Slow swimming, canoeing or stand up paddling are soothing activities for balancing pitha. Taking a short nap (15 to 20 minutes) in the middle of the day is good for pitha dominated people as is calming meditation practices – see my book Yoga is my therapy (Yoga är min terapi) for examples.
If you have been out of balance for a long time
If you are suffering with hyper acidity in the stomach or skin diseases like psoriasis or eczema, drink aloe vera juice and apply coconut oil on the skin. Also avoid chili, strong coffee and alcohol. (Contact my office if you need individual advice for your health email@example.com.)
