Ayurveda spring balance

How to find balance during the kapha season

During the spring season it is quite common to see health problems caused by an imbalance of kapha (the earth/water elements) in the human body, such as for example continuous cold, cough, sinusitis, asthma, throat infection and accumulation of phlegm, nostril conjunction, slow digestion, obesity, and many other symptoms. If your dominant force is kapha, or if you are suffering with any of these symptoms, you can follow a kapha balancing diet to regain your good health.

Kapha balancing food program

If you have an imbalance in the kapha force in your body, try to avoid cold and oily food. Make a habit of not eating before 10 am and after 6 pm. Eat and drink food and drinks which are warm or at least room temperature. Reduce the use of nuts and salt during this season.

To balance the earth-water elements in your body make sure that your daily diet includes the following:

Fruits
Pomegranate
Apple

Beans
Boiled/sprouted mung beans

Steam cooked vegetables
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Sprouts
Green peas
Onion
Carrot
Capsicum
Arugula (steaming not needed)
Beetroot
Spinach (steaming not needed)
Cabbage (steaming not needed)

Spices
Chilli
Ginger
Turmeric
Black pepper
Garlic

Seeds
Sunflower seeds

Tea
Black tea
Ginger tea

You will find more guidelines on how to balance the kapha force here: Guidelines Kapha and in the book Ayurveda-traditionell kunskap för en modern livsstil (Swedish) and Die Mentale Kraft Des Ayurveda (German).
